When prepping your
face before applying makeup be careful of using too much moisturizer around
your eyes, especially if your skin generally tends to be more on the oily side.
Make sure you are using a good eye primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion ($20) or Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($18). The primer will act as a barrier between the natural oils of your skin
and any makeup that you apply to your eyes. Even though you are not using primer on your lashes, it will help
prevent the oils from being able to reach your mascara and making it run.
Use waterproof mascara. I suggest Maybelline The Colossal Mascara ($6.99). You want to use mascara that
has a smooth consistency so it will not flake off and create black smudges
under your eye. If you want thick lashes
apply two coats.
Curl your lashes after applying mascara. The texture of the mascara will help your
lashes curl more than naked lashes. Also, by curling with mascara on, you will essentially seal the mascara to the lashes
which helps prevent any flaking.
Apply a coat of clear gel
mascara to seal the deal. That will act almost like a
hairspray or a topcoat—sealing and setting the
mascara so it will stay where you want it and you can concentrate on having a
good time instead of cleaning up!
